PEAT Download Page
From this page, you can download all of the PEAT software and documentation.
Choose the appropriate instructions:
I) Installation
Instructions
- Copy the file "Peat4.exe" onto
a PC.
a) Create a folder called "PEAT" on your PC. This is where
you will store the file Peat4.exe when you download.
b) Click here to download the PEAT 4 software
and documentation (Size: 2.6 MB, modified 07/25/02)
c) Store the file Peat4.exe in the folder called PEAT that
you created.
- Unpack the files from Peat4.exe.
The file "Peat4.exe" is actually a folder that contains many
files. Double click on "Peat4.exe" to unpack the other files.
- Make sure the clock is set to the correct time on the PC.
Peat uses the PC's built-in clock to tell time, so make sure the PC
is set to the correct time before installing PEAT.
- Connect the PC to the Pocket PC (only if you have a Pocket PC).
Note: Only perform this step if you are installing PEAT
onto a Pocket PC (handheld device).
If you are not installing PEAT onto a Pocket PC, then skip this step and
Go To Step 5.
Find the connection instructions, software, and cable that came with your
Pocket PC device for details about this step. When a connection is established
between your PC and the Pocket PC, the PC will ask if you want to setup
a partnership. We recommend you choose "No", because a partnership
is not necessary for PEAT (and it will save a little time each time you
connect).
On the Pocket PC, you may be asked to enter a user name and password, and
you can also enter "guest" as a user name, which will not require
a password.
- Start the Installation software.
Go to the folder that contains the unpacked PEAT files, and find the file
called "Setup.exe". Double tap on the file called "Setup.exe".
This will create a new window called "Peat Installer". Read the
Administrator's Guide for details
about how to use the Peat Installer software. (The Administrator's
Guide requires Acrobat
Reader.)
- Install PEAT onto the PC.
In the Peat Installer window, go to the Install Menu and choose "PC".
This will create shortcuts on your desktop to PEAT. It also adds a Peat
option to the Windows Start menu, which you can see when you click on the
"Start" button in the lower left corner of the screen.
- If you are not installing PEAT onto a Pocket PC, then you are
finished with installation, so skip the remaining installation steps and
go to the Installation Notes.
- Make sure the clock is set to the correct time on the Pocket PC.
Note: Only perform this step if you are installing PEAT
onto a Pocket PC (handheld device).
Pocket Peat uses the
Pocket PC's built-in clock to tell time, so make sure the Pocket PC is
set to the correct time before running PEAT. The Peat Installer will attempt
do this automatically if necessary, by synchronizing the Pocket PC's clock
with the PC's clock, but we recommend that you set the clock yourself before
installing PEAT.
- Install PEAT onto the Pocket PC.
Note: Only perform this step if you are installing PEAT
onto a Pocket PC (handheld device).
In the Peat Installer window, go to the Install menu and choose "Handheld".
This will automatically copy a lot of files to the handheld device, install
them, and start PEAT. It may take about 10 minutes to copy the files. PEAT
will automatically be started after it is installed.
- Check the sound settings on the Pocket PC.
Note: Only perform this step if you are installing PEAT
onto a Pocket PC (handheld device).
Read the Peat Administrator's Guide
for details about how to perform the following steps. You can also read
the documentation for your handheld device to find the "Settings"
control panel and other details.
- Go to the "Sounds and Reminders" section and look at the
volume setting. We recommend that the volume be set to one notch below
Loudest.
- Make sure that "Enable sounds for Events and Programs" both
have check marks in front of them (they are enabled).
- Make sure that "Enable sounds for Notifications" does not
have a check mark in front of it (it is disabled).
- Select the appropriate sound options for screen taps.
- Read the Installation Notes.
Installation Notes:
- Read the PEAT Documentation for important
information about using PEAT most effectively.
- Startup tips:
- To Exit the Peat application, tap on the "Tools" button,
then "System", then "Exit".
- On a Pocket PC, PEAT can then be restarted by tapping on one of the
four hardware buttons on the front of the device, or by using the "Start"
menu, which is part of Windows CE (outside of PEAT).
- PEAT first starts up in "Trial" mode, which provides full
functionality for 30 days, but will be limited after that period. After
we receive payment, we provide an electronic key that will prevent the
software from expiring after 30 days.
- To start or stop the Peat Demo, tap on the "Tools" button,
then "Demo".
- You can add your own sounds (in "wav" format) to the Sounds
folder, and you can add your own digital pictures (in "bmp" format)
to the Pictures folder. See the Reference
Manual and the Administrator's
Guide for details.
- The voice recording feature is only available on handheld devices and
not currently available in the Desktop (or Laptop) version of PEAT.
II) Upgrade
Instructions
- Find the folder where PEAT is currently stored (on your desktop
or laptop PC).
To upgrade PEAT, you must first find the folder where the old version
is stored on your desktop or laptop PC. There are a few ways to do this:
a) If you previously installed PEAT using the PEAT Installer program,
then you probably have a shortcut to this folder in your Windows Start
menu. The Start button is in the lower left corner of your PC screen. Click
on the Start button and look for a Menu option called PEAT. The option
called "PEAT Files" will open the folder we want.
b) If you didn't use the installer before, but followed our instructions
for the "PC only", you still might have a shortcut on your desktop.
Look for a shortcut to the "PEAT files". This should be
the folder that contains the file PEAT.exe, which is what we want.
c) If you don't remember where that folder is, use the "Find"
menu option on the Windows Start menu to find the file called "PEAT.exe".
The Start button is in the lower left corner of your PC screen. Click on
the Start button, choose the "Find" option, and look for the
folder called "ARM Programs". Open the folder that contains
the folder "ARM Programs". You know you opened the correct folder
if it contains the files "PEAT.exe" and "Setup.exe".
This is the folder were you will put the new file Peat4.exe.
- Copy the file "Peat4.exe" onto a PC.
a) Click here to download the PEAT 4 software and
documentation (Size: 2.6 MB, modified 07/25/02)
b) Store the file Peat4.exe in the folder that you found
in Step 1.
- Unpack the files from Peat4.exe.
a) The file "Peat4.exe" is actually a folder that contains
many files. Double click on "Peat4.exe" to unpack the other files.
b) A window will pop up and ask if you want to overwrite the old
version of the software.
You will see a prompt like: "replace SH Programs/pCue.exe? [y]es,
[n]o, [A]ll, [R]eplace".
c) You must enter "A", for "All". This means
"overwrite all files", and it will replace all of the old software
files with the new versions.
- If you are not upgrading PEAT on a Pocket PC, then you are finished
with the upgrade, so skip the next step and go to the PEAT
Documentation and New Features.
- Upgrade PEAT on the Pocket PC. (only if you have a Pocket PC)
Note: Only perform this step if you are upgrading PEAT
on a Pocket PC (handheld device).
a) Start the Installation software.
Go to the folder that contains the Peat files, and find the file called
"Setup.exe". Double tap on the file called "Setup.exe".
This will create a new window called "Peat Installer". Read the
Peat Administrator's Guide
for details about how to use the Peat Installer.
b) Upgrade onto the Pocket PC.
In the Peat Installer window, go to Upgrade menu and choose "Handheld".
This will automatically copy the new PEAT software to the handheld device.
It may take several minutes to copy the files. PEAT will automatically
be started after it is upgrade.
- Read the PEAT Documentation and New Features
for important information about using PEAT 4 most effectively.
PEAT Documentation
PEAT 4 includes three important documents that can help you get the most
out of PEAT. Start with the Administrator's
Guide in order to install PEAT. Then look at the Treatment
Guide and Workbook in order to understand the overall PEAT Treatment
process, and how to develop an individualized treatment plan for each user.
Finally, the Reference Manual provides
all of the details about how to operate and use PEAT. These manuals can
be found in the PEAT folder on your PC. (These PDF documents
require Acrobat
Reader software.)
- The Administrator's Guide
- Explains how to use the PEAT Installer program (Setup.exe) in order to
install PEAT and to copy data between the PC and the Pocket PC.
- The Treatment Guide and Workbook
- Explains how to develop an individualized PEAT treatment plan based on
user-specific needs and capabilities. Explains the "optimal"
PEAT treatment plan, and provides worksheets that guide the decision process
about user interface and activity modelling choices.
- The Reference Manual - The
comprehensive manual of how to operate PEAT. This describes all of the
PEAT options and how to operate them.
New Features in PEAT 4:
Listed below is a brief summary of the new features in this version of
PEAT. Please see the Reference Manual
for details about how to use these new features.
- Ability to remove the "wait" (snooze) button and many more
user interface options options to meet individual needs.
- Options that prevent users from modifying their tasks, names and notes
by accident.
- QWERTY Keyboard and Handwriting Recognition
There is a new setup option called "PEAT Keyboard". When
this option is set to YES (the default), then you have the large on-screen
keyboard that is part of PEAT. If you set this option to NO, you can choose
between two keyboards that are built into the Pocket PC. You can choose
either a small QWERTY keyboard or a handwriting recognition keyboard.
Note: On some Pocket PCs, these keyboards appear and then
immediately disappear when the stylus is lifted off the screen. If this
happens, slide the stylus over the keyboard region before lifting the stylus
off the screen. This will be fixed soon.
- Note Copies
Now you can link a "note copy" to a task. This is like linking
a "note" to the task, except that a unique copy of the note is
made for each day that the task occurs. For example, you can create a Shopping
List note and link a "note copy" of the Shopping List to a weekly
Shopping task. Each week, the Shopping List task will be linked to a fresh
copy of the shopping list for that week. This is used to automatically
generate a copy of a check list each time that a given task is scheduled.
You can also set up a daily checklist of work or home activities that gets
reset automatically each day.
